AU Deals: Colossal Discounts on Current and Classic Games Worth Their Weight in Rupees

There’s no shortage of deals tempting my wallet this week, and I’m leaning into the ones that feel like old mates I can’t quite leave behind. When these discounts line up, I can’t help but relive memories of blasting through title screens, falling into new worlds, and getting crotch kicked from a running start by some boss who had no business being that hard. That being said, let’s all dive into the deals, of which there are many.

This Day in Gaming 🎂

In retro tidings, today marks 16 years since Punch-Out!! landed a haymaker on Wii. I still recall importing the EU copy (because Australia’s release lagged behind) just so I could pen the first local player’s guide. Looking back, Little Mac’s comeback has aged like a champ, with its cartoonish cel-shade style, overlooked two-player bouts, and brain-teasing pugilist puzzles. If there’s any fighter worthy of a Switch rematch, it’s this scrappy underdog.

Nice Savings for Nintendo Switch

On Switch, Pokémon Legends: Z-A grabbed me with its promise of bending tradition. It’s wild to think how each new Pokémon entry sneaks in fresh mechanics, and this one seems to be loaded with design choices that will ripple across the franchise. Meanwhile, Red Dead Redemption on Nintendo’s handheld is still surreal to me. I spent hours staring at sunrises over the desert, and I love that it can now be played on the go without losing any atmosphere.

  • Pokémon Legends: Z-A (-13%) A$78 New critters, new systems, but (I suspect) the same old joy of stuffing magical wildlife into tiny balls.
  • Lego Skywalker Saga Galactic Ed. (-80%) A$22.90 All nine films retold with slapstick Lego humour. It’s like Star Wars, but nobody loses a hand for keeps.
  • Red Dead Redemption (-57%) A$29.90 Saddle up for Rockstar’s dusty masterpiece. Comes with bonus zombies if you fancy cowboy horror. And you should.
  • Panzer Dragoon: Rem. (-90%) A$3.70 You, a dragon, and laser eyes. Simple 90s fun, now with less polygon jank.
  • Scribblenauts Mega Pack (-90%) A$4.40 Write “Godzilla,” get Godzilla. Write “zombie Godzilla,” and yeah, that works too.

Exciting Bargains for Xbox

On Series X, Wild Hearts is a quirky gem. I remember being floored that Koei Tecmo, of Dynasty Warriors fame, managed to deliver a Monster Hunter rival that felt inventive and fresh. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor also sits tall in my cart, mainly because Cal Kestis’s motion-capture actor Cameron Monaghan admitted to sneaking in some of his Joker experience from Gotham into the combat animations.

  • Seagate Expansion 1TB (-38%) A$216.20 More space for your backlog. Not a sexy buy, but very necessary.
  • Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (-47%) A$58.60 Swing sabers, grow beards, and angst like a proper Jedi on the run.
  • Gotham Knights (-73%) A$29.90 Batman’s dead. But don’t worry, his protégés are here to punch crime into the pavement.
  • Wild Hearts (-86%) A$14.90 It’s Monster Hunter, but with anime Fortnite forts. Surprisingly good, and dirt cheap.
  • Metal Gear Solid Delta (-16%) A$109 Snake’s jungle adventure, rebuilt. Expect stealth, crocodiles, and Kojima weirdness (minus Kojima).

Xbox One

  • No Man’s Sky (-60%) A$35.90 A universe the size of… well, the universe. Still growing thanks to endless free updates.
  • CoD: MW2 (-65%) A$34.90 Michael Bay in game form. Loud, explosive, oddly addictive.
  • It Takes Two (-70%) A$17.90 The ultimate couples therapy, only with dolls, mini-games, and marital bickering.
  • Katamari Damacy Reroll (-75%) A$11.20 Roll the world into a ball. It’s stupidly joyful chaos, and that’s the point.

  • Metal Gear Solid Delta (-16%) – A$109

  • Red Dead Redemption 2 (-72%) – A$24.90
  • Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown (-65%) – A$34.50

  • Grim Fandango Rem. (-75%) – A$4.80

Pure Scores for PlayStation

For PS5, Judgment remains one of the slickest detective spinoffs ever made. I love that its lead, Takayuki Yagami, is played by real-world actor Takuya Kimura, whose likeness rights nearly stopped the series from existing in the West. Tales of Arise is also worthy of praise, thanks to its painterly combat animations that were created by the same studio that worked on God Eater.

  • Metal Gear Solid Delta (-16%) A$109 A glossy new take on Snake’s finest hour. Yes, you can still eat frogs.
  • Visions of Mana (-37%) A$62.20 JRPG fantasy fluff, but pretty fluff. Bright, breezy, and brimming with Mana nostalgia.
  • Horizon Forbidden West (-35%) A$81.30 Aloy vs robo-dinos, now with bigger hair and bigger mechs.
  • Tales of Arise (-67%) A$32.50 JRPG melodrama mixed with stylish action. Great food scenes too.
  • Judgment (-48%) A$28.80 Phoenix Wright meets Yakuza. Solve murders, then go belt out karaoke.

PS4

  • Dragon Quest XI S Def. (-34%) A$36.10 Classic turn-based JRPG, only shinier, fuller, and with way too much slime.
  • GTA Trilogy – The Def. Ed. (-75%) A$24.90 GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas. Yes, the remaster was rough at launch, but for this price? Worth a crime spree.
  • Firewatch (-75%) A$7.40 You, a forest, and a walkie-talkie buddy. Less combat, more existential dread.

  • One Piece Odyssey (-68%) – A$32.30
  • Hitman WoA (-43%) – A$59.90

  • Metal Gear Solid Delta (-16%) – A$109

  • Red Dead Redemption 2 (-72%) – A$24.90
  • Tunic (-50%) – A$22.40
  • Trine: Ult. Col. (-79%) – A$15.90

Purchase Cheap for PC

Finally, PC players should not sleep on The Last of Us Part I. Naughty Dog painstakingly reworked environmental details so even the grime on bricks feels tangible, and I’ve lost too much time taking photo mode snaps of dust particles alone. I’d also recommend Hollow Knight. Not just for its Aussie pedigree but because the dev team once admitted the nail-biting boss Hornet was originally designed to be far harder before fan testing pushed them to tone her down.

  • The Last of Us Part I (-56%) A$41.70 Joel and Ellie’s classic road trip, now prettier and still a massive bummer.
  • Hollow Knight (-50%) A$10.90 The best bug-based metroidvania ever made. It’s Aussie, it’s brutal, it’s beautiful.
  • Star Wars Outlaws (-55%) A$44.90 Play as a scoundrel between the trilogies. Basically, a kinda Han Solo simulator minus the Wookiee.
  • Lego Bricktales (-87%) A$5.50 Build, puzzle, admire your own genius. Cheaper than a physical set, less painful underfoot.
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 (-75%) A$22.40 The West, but gorgeous. Skin this smoke wagon and get to it.
