The Best Switch 2 Memory Card Just Got Another Big Discount, Now Even Cheaper Than Prime Day | JoystickPress

Don’t tell my boss, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Amazon’s recent “Prime Big Deal Days” sale might have been completely pointless. It’s basically already Amazon’s “we’ve got Prime Day at home” before its inevitable torture of Black Friday sales kicks in for what feels like a whole month.
But now we’re just discounting popular items even further after a bunch of people already bought them? No way! Insert surprised Pikachu meme for me here, because why is the Switch 2’s top memory card now almost $30 less than it was yesterday… during the Prime member exclusive sale?
I mean, it’s good news for anyone who held off, as the 1TB Lexar Pro MicroSD Express Card is now considerably cheaper, and down to $157.96 (previously $186.98 during Prime Big Deal Days, MSRP is $219.99).
The 512GB version hasn’t escaped the post-sale price cut either, now down to just $88.47 (previously almost $100 during the recent sale). These are the lowest prices we’ve seen all year, and the timing feels almost cruel if you paid yesterday’s “discounted” rate.
For those who bought it during the sale, bad luck, but it’s a good excuse if you want to get into an argument with Amazon’s customer service to get a refund. Still, be nice to them if you do; they’re likely very underpaid and jaded as it is.
Look, this feels like a pretty bizarre situation to be in. Other staff and I definitely would have told you to buy the memory card yesterday, as we were under the impression that this would likely be the best price until Black Friday. An even better discount coming in just a day later is just bewildering, even if it can be spun as a positive for those who want to maximise their Switch 2 storage but didn’t have $200+ to do so.
Just under $160 is a pretty good price for the express cards (the only expandable memory option for Switch 2), and while still rather expensive compared to other storage solutions like standard microSDs or SSDs, it’s the best price going for the maximum storage on Switch 2 right now. We’ll be waiting quite a bit more time before these prices drop any further than this, and I can even see it selling out at the price point as well.
Anyway, if you’d rather spend less a bit less on a 512GB or 256GB memory card, Walmart’s Onn microSDs are also another option. They don’t match the Lexar’s cards for speed, but in practice you won’t notice much difference when it comes to playing Switch 2 games or loading into menus.
The bigger issue is actually finding one in stock, Walmart tends to run out quickly and only reliably restocks around major sales events like Prime Week. That makes them more of a budget fallback than a long-term solution, but if you spot one available, they’re worth grabbing.
As for the console itself, the Switch 2 is finally easy to find. It’s in stock across all major retailers right now, no invite queues or hoops to jump through. That said, Nintendo has already raised prices on accessories and has hinted that the console could see a price increase too. So if you’ve been waiting to pick one up, it’s probably smarter to buy sooner rather than later.
